We know that Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, but who was the "last man on the moon?" Of the possible answers, only two actually walked on the moon.

John Glenn was the first man from the United States to orbit the earth, and was vital in setting the stage for the Apollo program. Michael Collins orbited the moon while Neil Armstrong and Buz Aldren landed on the lunar surface.

On July 20, 1969, the United States landed 2 men on the moon. Following this, there were five more moon landings which collectively returned 382 kilograms of lunar samples, and carried out experiments and research which yielded not only information about the moon, but about the early history of the Earth.

Michael Collins was part of Apollo 11, and John Young was part of the Apollo 16 crew. But it was Eugene Cernan, on Apollo 17, who was the last astronaut to walk on the lunar surface, the last man in the moon.

By now we all have learned how much a part of our lives the moon is. We have taken imaginary trips to the moon in literature, and walked upon the moon in reality.

The moon has long been a time keeper, and a comfort on nights that would otherwise be dark and lonely. We have discovered the "lunar vocabulary" of "blue moon," "honeymoon" and we can think of others not mentioned (moonlighting, moonshine.)
