The moon, goddess of the night, silent companion, and ancient calendar. As long as humans have walked the Earth, the moon has followed in their thoughts. Playing a silent serenade to romantics and inspiring poets to write of her beauty, it is hard not to notice this guardian of the night.
The Moon has always had a place in our lives, and though this role has changed over the centuries, it is still very much a part of our lives, if not an immediately obvious one.
At a distance of roughly 240,000 miles, it is hard to imagine the moon as "right in our backyard," But the moon is, in fact, our closest neighbor in the universe. It is our most explored place in the cosmos other than the Earth, and it is the only other world on which we have walked.
Many of us think of the moon only in terms of "that bright light in the skies some nights," we have forgotten the more "down to Earth" role the moon plays in our lives.
How much do you know about our lunar companion? StarrySkies invites you to take the lunar lore challenge, let us all "walk in moonlight" and get to know our "lunar legacy."
