Close Encounters of the Martian Kind

On August 27th, a celestial event will take place which has not happened in over 73,000 years. On that day, now proclaimed to be Mars day, the planet Mars will be closer to Earth than in all of recorded history. It will be the chance of a lifetime for everyone to go out and see Mars and never before, and never again in our lifetimes!

This special event takes place because of the specific positions of Mars and Earth in their orbits. It is particularly exciting because Mars is a small planet without many contrasting features and most of the time it is difficult to see details on Mars. But because Mars is so close, even small telescopes will show details that would normally never be seen.

Don't miss this special close encounter of a Martian kind!
