The Stars of Summer
Alpha Piscis, Fomalhaut (22h 57.3m -29°37') This is the most southern of the 1st magnitude stars visible from 40 degrees north latitude. The star is a white giant of class A3. Its distance is about 20 light years. Beta Piscis (22h 31.3m -32°20') has a magnitude of 4.2 and is a white giant class A0 star. It is much farther away at about 170 light years. |
