Large Magellanic Cloud, LMC (5h20m -69°) This galaxy is visible even in moonlight. The magellanic clouds are irregular galaxies in the local group. The LMC is about 50,000 light years across and is about 80,000 light years distant. NGC2070 The Tarantula Nebula (05h39m.9 -69°04') also called the Great Looped Nebula, it is situated within the LMC. At 190,000 light years, this nebula is still visible to the naked eye. The Tarantula is the largest know diffuse nebula known. |
