Vulpecula the Fox

Mythology

This is the constellation of the little fox. Originally it had been known as the fox and goose. Possibly the fox ate the goose because now it is only known as the fox. It is a dim little constellation with no stars brighter than 4.4.

The Stars of Summer

Alpha Vulpeculi (19h 28.4m +39°54') a 4.4 magnitude red class M0 star. It lies about 70 light years distant.

M27 (NGC 6853) the Dumbell Nebula (19h 57.4m +22°35') This is the brightest and easitest to find of the planetary nebulae. It has a magnitude of 8 and may be seen easily using binoculars.
